You are my Savior (+poem)

What is love? I wasn't aware.

For so many years I didn't even care.

Until the day you finally came

Into my life, bound to make it change.

I knew you were special from the start.

You sparked the fire in my heart.

We belong together, you and me.

But this truth you couldn't see.

I wanted you, no one else.

In my hopes and dreams I lost myself.

But I was too shy to confess.

Afraid of what you'd think, I guess.

How should I tell you and let you know?

How should I make my feelings show?

I was a coward, always scared.

To say I love you I never dared.

All these years, alone in the dark.

Hiding my tears and heavy heart.

It's just how I was, I guess I was fine.

I accepted that you couldn't be mine.

I almost lost hope, but I still held on.

This love was right, giving up was wrong.

You started this, so set me free.

You're the only one who can release me.

One day you finally realized.

How I felt deep inside.

Sometime later you fell in love too.

We got together and my dreams came true.

So many years, I've waited so long.

With you I'm invincible, I feel strong.

You are my savior, you saved my life.

Because of you I feel alive.

You saved me from the pain and tears,

The loneliness from all those years.

Into the dark you brought the light

Making my world colorful and bright.

Please never leave me, do not go.

I need you with me, that I know.

The only one I love is you.

It's always been, you know it's true.

I love you more than I can show.

More than you will ever know.

I think about you all the time.

I don't think I've ever written such a long poem before. I don't know how it got so long. I was just really motivated to write, and suddenly it was over 300 words long. I literally read this through 10000 times to confirm that the poem isn't crap. It's my love story, in summary. For my boyfriend, so he knows how much he means to me.
